Hotel Living

I had never put much thought into business travel until this past summer. I have been living out of a hotel since May and while being away from Jay most of the time sucks, I do have to admit that it has it's perks.

For one, I haven't made my bed in about 5 months. Depending on whether you're somebody that actually makes their bed every day or not, this may not seem like a big deal. One does get used to coming back to a neatly made bed every night though.

Secondly, I haven't had to do laundry and I've had the luxury of dry cleaning all my clothes. I've heard that this extends the life of clothes. Now normally, this would be great but I would genuinely hope that I do not need my maternity clothes after the baby unless it's to have another baby.

Thirdly, the bathroom is always clean and there's always fresh towels. Plus, you can request additional towels to your heart's desire. And I'm pretty sure that they clean the tub every day (or at least I hope that they do and if they don't, I hope nobody tells me). I for one, at home, do not clean my tub everyday. Well, truthfully, I don't clean my tub at all. Jay does all the housework (for which I will be eternally grateful that I met somebody that does housework).

Of course, there's also downsides...such as being away from home and being away from your friends and family. Living out of a suitcase can only be a novelty for so long and one gets used to packing with essentials only. My method of packing is different from most. I pack what currently fits. Clothes that are baggy one week feel snug the next and next thing you know, they're too small. Now that I have maternity clothes, the elastic waistband on my pants and skirst should fix that little problem.

I am thankful that I've had this experience to work away from home and live out of a hotel since after this little baby of ours will be born, I don't expect to be traveling much if at all.

So here's to looking at the silver lining in all circumstances. Of course, living in nice hotels is a lot different than living in the scummy Motel 8.

On Being Tired

Since PwC here in Princeton, NJ has been working on average 16-18 hours a day (some more than others) I though it appropriate to write a salute on Being Tired.

So the first category, is DROWSINESS Tired. This is often accompanied by excessive yawning, nodding of the head and bone cracking stretching. This is where I would put about 1/2 of my co-workers. I also like to call this stage the sleepwalking while you work stage.

Then there's EXTREME-EXHAUSTION-DUE-TO-PROLONGED-SLEEP-DEPRIVATION Tired. In this stage, some people claim to not even be tired anymore. They are so beyond tired that they don't recognize that their body has been shutting down and that their eyes are actually no longer open when they walk from their cubes to the washroom.

There's also the WHY-NOT-HAVE-A-TRIPLE-EXPRESSO-CAPPACCINO-FROM-STARBUCKS-AT-4:30-IN-THE-MORNING Tired......closely followed with WHY-IS-STARBUCKS-NOT-OPEN-UNTIL-5AM!! Tired. Not to be confused with SO-TIRED-WE'RE-DRINKING-12-HOUR-OLD-BEEN SITTING-ON-MY-DESK-NASTY-COFFEE Tired. This (I guess since us pregnant girls have to go sans-caffeine) is where you decide that a triple shot really wouldn't not wake you up let along hinder your sleep.

Let us not forget the WHY-NOT-JUST-STAY-UP-UNTIL-EVERYBODY-ELSE-GETS-INTO-WORK-SO-WHAT-IF-WE'RE-WEARING-THE-SAME-CLOTHES Tired. One figures at this point that you mind as well just stay up since sleeping for 3 hours and coming back to work may just make you more tired than if you hadn't slept at all.

Now, I'm sure that there are many other categories of being tired. I've been mostly focussed on the types that one sees in an office.

I also need to add that nothing bugs tired people more than having a new person work ONE day and claim that they themselves are as tired as you have been.

Move Baby!

So I've been reading lots of articles that say that you're supposed to feel your baby 'flutter' inside from 18-24 weeks and for some second (or third, of fourth time mothers, it may be even earlier. They also offer reasons why you wouldn't have felt your baby yet (such as positioning of the baby & location of the placenta) but not only am I not as big as I thought I'd be by this time, but I'm also not feeling the baby 'flutter' around inside! :(

The doctor has told me that the baby's heartbeat is strong and therefore I do not need to worry.....but when I talk to other soon-to-be-mothers, they are all so surprised that I have not had the opportunity to feel the baby kick as early as them.

My mom told me that she barely felt me the entire 9 months. Jay's mom told him that she felt him moving all the time. There's got to be a happy medium here.

So my message to this baby.....move baby! Move ya' baby! I want to be able to say "YES!....I DID FEEL THE KICKING" and "NO, I HAVE NOT MISINTERPRETED THE FLUTTERS AS GAS BUBBLES!".

Our first blog entry......

Our first blog entry......

So inspired by my friend Kevin, I've decided to try and keep a blog for any of those that may actually want to read my scribblings. This is an attempt to do away with emailing everybody with news of the pregnancy and any future funny stories and mishaps that I may encounter along my 'knocked-up' journey. Plus, reading Kevin's Blog is highly entertaining so I now have his very high standards to follow.

The big discussion for the week among my co-workers is that even though I'm 26 weeks, I don't appear that pregnant. I met a girl in the elevator who was 28 weeks and she didn't even believe that I was pregnant! I feel a little 'jipped' since I want people to notice and not just think that I'm chunky around the middle. So...when are people finally going to see that I'm a "mother-to-be" and not just the "slightly-chubby-and-should-not-take-advantage-of-the-corporate-expense-account-anymore" girl?

For anybody that hasn't yet seen a picture of our baby incubating inside, this is him. See...he's already got the "Tang" attitude. We're trying to take a picture and he's giving us 'the hand'. For anybody that knows Jay, it's not all Tang.....the Sennet part of this baby is also adding to his attitude. All I can say is that it's going to be payback time for all the times I was bad when I was a baby. According to my mom, I was very difficult and cried all the time. It must be time for payback. I'll have to keep you all posted.
